WIND FARMS NEAR SADBERGE

Plaque

There are several proposals to construct wind farms on the Tees Plain to the north-east of Darlington.  This section of the Sadberge web site provides information about these proposals and Sadberge's responses to them.

At 19-Oct-2011, the situation is as follows:-
>>   At a special meeting on 19-Oct-2011, Darlington Borough Council's Planning Committee agreed to grant planning permission for Banks Renewables' proposed six-turbine wind farm at Moor House.  (In November 2010 the Planning Committee had refused planning permission for a ten-turbine wind farm at Moor House on the grounds that "the proposed development would adversely affect the character of the local landscape and visual amenity to an unacceptable level").
>> Pure Renewable Energy (PRE) has submitted a planning application for a three-turbine wind farm at Newbiggin.  The construction of this wind farm would involve 27 abnormal loads – nine of them with a length of 45 metres – travelling through Sadberge Village over an 8 - 9 week period plus over 3,500 HGV movements through the village during an eight-month period.  (The Newbiggin Wind Farm Environmental Statement doesn't define the routes to be taken by the HGVs, but as far as we can see the only way that they can get to and from the Newbiggin site is through Sadberge along Norton Road.)

Other wind farm news
>> Stockton Borough Council granted permission for Banks Renewables' proposed four-turbine wind farm at Lamb's Hill, west of Stillington, but has nullified that decision and is sending the application back to its Planning Committee.
>> Wind Prospect Developments has submitted a planning application for a three-turbine wind farm at Foxton Lane, south of Sedgefield.  This application will be dealt with by Durham County Council.
>> E.ON has withdrawn its planning application for the proposed ten-turbine A1 Wind Farm near Mordon, but has started consultation on a proposal to construct a much larger wind farm called The Isles – consisting of 25 - 45 turbines – in the same general area.

On behalf of the Association of North East Councils (ANEC), Arup has produced an addendum to its report on Wind Farm Development and Landscape Capacity Studies: East Durham Limestone and Tees Plain.  This addendum is very significant for the campaign to limit the number of wind turbines on the Tees Plain to the north-east of Darlingon.  Click here for further information.

Sadberge Parish Council's position

In line with the wind farms addendum to the Sadberge Parish Plan, Sadberge Parish Council's position is that commercial-scale wind turbines should not be situated amongst the settlements on the Tees Plain to the north-east of Darlington.

If, despite local opposition, planning permission is given for any wind farms in this area then:-
